France closes its borders to Israeli Minister Ben-Gvir

France has banned Israeli far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir from entering French territory. According to Anadolu Agency, Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot cited Israel's mistreatment of activists aboard the Global Sumud Fleet as the reason for the ban.

The Global Sumud Fleet consisted of ships from a civilian initiative that set out to deliver humanitarian aid to Gaza. The fleet was stopped by the Israeli military, and activists were subjected to force. The incident provoked reactions across Western Europe, while France's move set a diplomatically notable precedent as an EU member state formally closing its borders to an Israeli minister.

Barrot stated that France would never tolerate the threatening or intimidation of its own citizens.
