Pashinyan Thanks Turkey and Azerbaijan for Newly Opened Railway Line

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that he has formally thanked Turkey and Azerbaijan for the newly opened railway line. According to reporting from the Strategic Thinking Institute, the move is being assessed as a concrete indicator of the regional normalization process.

The border between Turkey and Armenia has been closed since 1993; however, diplomatic contacts between the two countries have increased markedly in recent times. Following the wars between Azerbaijan and Armenia in 2020 and 2023, the new order taking shape in the region is also driving the opening of transport corridors.

The railway connection carries strategic importance for Turkey in terms of economic and logistical integration with both Armenia and Central Asia. Pashinyan's public expression of gratitude marks a visible step in the Ankara-Yerevan rapprochement coming into the open.
