The High Military Council, chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, convened at Beştepe following a visit to Anıtkabir. At the center of the agenda are promotion files for colonels to general and admiral ranks, current generals being promoted to higher ranks, and personnel retiring due to vacancies and age limits.
Notable names at this year's meeting: Justice Minister Akın Gürlek, Interior Minister Mustafa Çiftçi, and Land Forces Commander General Metin Tokel are sitting at the council table for the first time. It was noted that possible duty changes in the force commands will also be evaluated.
The Council is the most critical annual meeting that determines the upper-level structure of the Turkish Armed Forces; last year at this meeting, multiple force commanders were replaced. Decisions will be shared with the public following Erdoğan's approval.
