Drain cleaner explodes in chain store in Şanlıurfa: 6 injured

A drain cleaner chemical poured into a chain store's plumbing line in Şanlıurfa detonated with bomb-like force, injuring 6 people. Multiple national news outlets, including Milliyet, TRT Haber, Cumhuriyet, and Sabah, reported the incident.

The chemical, used to clear a clogged drain, is believed to have undergone a reaction in the sealed, wet environment, causing a sudden explosion. AFAD teams and 112 emergency health units were rapidly dispatched to the scene. Substances commonly used in drain cleaners, such as sodium hypochlorite and caustic soda, can produce chlorine gas in enclosed spaces, a situation that can lead to serious chemical hazards.
