CHP's candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya elected deputy mayor of Üsküdar in fourth round

In a municipal assembly meeting convened to elect a deputy mayor to replace CHP's detained and suspended Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, the CHP's candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya was elected in the fourth round with 22 votes.

The first three rounds produced no result, with all 44 assembly members participating. It was determined that some of the CHP's 27 members voted for AKP's candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin; Gültekin remained at 18 votes in the fourth round.

During the voting, brief tension erupted in the chamber when AKP-affiliated figures objected to journalists filming the proceedings.

YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chair Özgür Çelik claimed that the meeting was rescheduled for 08:00 in the morning and that some members were threatened together with their families in the third round. It is noted that the Üsküdar Municipal Assembly has experienced multiple rounds in deputy mayor elections previously during this term.
