Kılıçdaroğlu team enters CHP headquarters, removes Özel's poster as first act

Turkey's main opposition party CHP is facing a deepening internal crisis. The team of former party leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu managed to enter CHP headquarters with police assistance. According to Cumhuriyet newspaper, the team's first act upon entering the building was to remove a poster of current party leader Özgür Özel from the façade.

Kılıçdaroğlu had previously said that images associated with Özel's leadership 'upset him.' The fact that entry to the building required a police escort signals that tensions between the two factions have now taken on a direct physical dimension.

The internal conflict within the CHP has also reignited debate over who holds control of the party apparatus. The move to seize control of headquarters is being assessed as directly linked to a potential extraordinary party congress.
