Agriculture Minister Yumaklı: This Season Will Break All-Time Record with 140 Million Tons

Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı, who attended a wheat harvest ceremony in Esencik village in Eflani district of Karabük, said he expects to close this year's harvest season with total agricultural production of 140 million tons. According to Anadolu Agency, Yumaklı emphasized that the figure represents an all-time record.

The minister noted that Turkey received its highest rainfall in 66 years this season, adding that compared with last year's drought, the picture looks extremely positive. Yumaklı announced that barley and wheat harvesting has been completed across 93 percent of the country and noted that work continues in the remaining areas.

Grain yields, which fell sharply last year due to drought, turned sharply around this season; the government had already shared record expectations with the public ahead of the harvest. At 140 million tons, Yumaklı's estimate sits well above Turkey's historical annual averages.

Karabük Governor Oktay Çağatay, AK Party deputies Cem Şahin and Durmuş Ali Keskinkılıç, and Karabük Mayor Özkan Çetinkaya also attended the ceremony. A harvest of this scale in Anatolia — widely regarded as the birthplace of wheat — will carry significant weight for both domestic market prices and export capacity.
