Kyrgyzstan and China on August 14 agreed on a draft agreement on cooperation in managing border crossing points on their shared border, the Customs Service of Kyrgyzstan reported.
Representatives of customs and border services, as well as relevant ministries of both countries, participated in the negotiations. The sides discussed mechanisms for joint control and coordination at existing border crossings.
Under the draft document, a Kyrgyz-Chinese Committee for Managing Border Crossing Points is to be established, along with specialized working groups for individual checkpoints. The new structures are intended to ensure coordinated operations between the agencies of both states and to resolve promptly any issues arising at border crossings.
The signing is scheduled to take place during the state visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Kyrgyzstan, timed to coincide with the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. The agreement is expected to give fresh momentum to bilateral trade and economic cooperation and to simplify border crossing procedures for citizens and freight carriers of both countries.
