Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry and Russian police freed a Kyrgyz citizen kidnapped in Yekaterinburg

A joint special operation by Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry representative office in Russia and the Main Directorate of the Interior Ministry for Sverdlovsk Oblast has resulted in the release of a Kyrgyz Republic citizen who was kidnapped in Yekaterinburg on August 5. This was reported by the press service of Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry.

According to the ministry, the victim had independently contacted the representative office before the kidnapping with a complaint about threats and extortion of a large sum of money. Despite the measures taken, unknown individuals nevertheless captured the man and held him in a concealed location, whose whereabouts could not initially be established.

During the operational activities, Kyrgyz and Russian law enforcement jointly determined the location of the hostage, after which they conducted an operation to secure his release. As a result of the special operation, two suspects were detained — citizens born in 1993. The law enforcement authorities of the Russian Federation opened a criminal case on charges of extortion and kidnapping. Investigation is currently ongoing: investigators are working to identify the identities of other possible accomplices in the crime.
