Istanbul — Protests continue within the campus of Istanbul Bilgi University following the institution's closure under an abrupt presidential decree, according to Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet.
A number of students spent the night inside the university campus, expressing their anger over the uncertainty surrounding their academic future, as well as what they described as police misconduct in handling protesters.
Protesters stated that faculty members and staff found themselves unemployed overnight without any prior warning, while authorities have yet to determine the fate of enrolled students or mechanisms for them to continue their studies.
Relevant government authorities have not issued any statement clarifying the next steps to address the situation of students and academic staff affected by the closure decision.
