Fight breaks out in park in Beykoz Paşabahçe: Yavuz Özgül (55) dies

A dispute that began in a park in Paşabahçe neighborhood in Beykoz district at around 3:15 p.m. ended in death. A disagreement between Yavuz Özgül (55) and Osman Ş. (61) turned into a knife fight in front of a mosque; Osman Ş. stabbed Özgül in the left neck, chest, and armpit.

Özgül was taken to Paşabahçe State Hospital unconscious and died despite medical intervention. Suspect Osman Ş. was apprehended by police 25 meters away from the scene; the knife used in the attack was also recovered.

In his statement, Osman Ş. said "When he reached for his waist, I thought he was going to stab me, so I swung the knife I found on the bench." Similar park fights have occurred in Beykoz earlier this year; the district prosecutor's office launched an investigation.
