World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus announced that there are 101 confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo and 7 in Uganda. Despite increased response efforts, Tedros forecast that case numbers will continue to rise in the weeks ahead.
The WHO stated it has deployed teams and resources to both countries to control the outbreak, while calling for strengthened regional coordination against the risk of cross-border spread. Ebola continues to pose a critical threat to global health systems due to its high mortality rate and transmissibility.
According to Anadolu Agency, the WHO announced it has accelerated vaccination and contact tracing efforts. Turkey's Health Ministry has not yet issued an official travel warning for Turkish citizens heading to the affected countries.
