Fidan: New attack on Iran would escalate conflict in region, Hormuz strait must reopen immediately
Foreign Minister Fidan announced after the R4+E3 meeting in Istanbul that eight nations have adopted a joint position against military intervention in Iran.

Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan held a press conference in Istanbul following the R4+E3 Foreign Ministers Meeting attended by Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Italy.
Fidan summarized the joint position of the eight nations as follows: he stated that they agree "that any further military attack on Iran would lead to escalation of war and conflict in the region." He expressed that they had reached near consensus on the point that choosing dialogue and diplomacy instead would be the most correct path.
Fidan also demanded the opening of the Hormuz Strait, saying "the Hormuz Strait must be opened as soon as possible," emphasizing that its negative impact on markets must now be eliminated. He noted that all parties at the table have decided to convey this message to all parties, including Iran.
Regarding the Russia-Ukraine war, Fidan reported that all participants want a ceasefire and a peace agreement based on it in the shortest possible time. He also stressed that steps must be taken to implement maritime safety in the Black Sea if a ceasefire cannot be achieved. Fidan recalled that Türkiye had made the Grain Initiative possible two and a half years ago, saying that discussions with the parties continue.
