Poland courts Canada as Warsaw hedges against uncertainty over US security role

Poland's defence minister travelled to Ottawa to press Canada on deeper security cooperation, in a signal that Warsaw is actively broadening its alliance portfolio as doubts grow over the long-term reliability of US security commitments to Europe, Anadolu Agency reported.

The visit underlines a broader pattern among NATO allies on Europe's eastern flank who are seeking to hedge against uncertainty over Washington's engagement by strengthening ties with other partners. Canada contributes troops to NATO's enhanced Forward Presence and has taken on a higher profile in European security discussions.
