Russia and Kazakhstan have signed an agreement on the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, Ukrinform — the Ukrainian National News Agency — reported on Wednesday.
The agreement formalises cooperation between the two countries on nuclear energy infrastructure. Ukrinform's report did not specify the plant's location within Kazakhstan, its planned capacity, the cost of the project, or the construction timeline.
The deal comes as Kazakhstan has been exploring options to expand its electricity generation capacity. Russia's state nuclear sector has pursued similar agreements with several countries in recent years.
The signing was reported by Ukrinform without attribution to a named signatory on either side.
