Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry and Russian Police Free Citizen Abducted in Yekaterinburg

A joint special operation by Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry representative office in Russia and the Main Interior Ministry Directorate of Sverdlovsk Oblast resulted in the release of a Kyrgyz Republic citizen who was abducted in Yekaterinburg on August 5. This was reported by the press service of Kyrgyzstan's Interior Ministry.

According to the ministry, the victim had independently approached the representative office prior to the abduction to file a report about threats and extortion of a large sum of money. Despite measures taken, unknown individuals nonetheless seized the man and held him at a concealed location, the whereabouts of which could not initially be determined.

During operational activities, Kyrgyz and Russian law enforcement jointly identified the hostage's location, after which they conducted an operation to secure his release. As a result of the special operation, two suspects—both born in 1993—were detained. Russian Federation law enforcement authorities opened a criminal case on charges of extortion and abduction. Investigative measures are ongoing as detectives work to identify other possible accomplices in the crime.
