Ukraine has opened a criminal case for corruption against Andrii Yermak — the head of the Presidential Office and one of the most influential members of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's inner circle. The investigation, being conducted by Ukrainian law enforcement, has become a serious test for the country's state institutions during wartime.

For President Zelenskyy, the situation presents an acute political dilemma. On one hand, he has repeatedly declared his commitment to fighting corruption as a condition for Ukraine's European integration and maintaining the trust of Western partners. On the other hand, Yermak is regarded as one of the key architects of Ukrainian diplomacy and domestic policy, and his possible removal could weaken the presidential team at a critical moment.

Observers and Kyiv's international partners view the outcome of the case as an indicator of the genuine independence of Ukraine's judicial and anti-corruption systems. In their assessment, such tests are precisely what determines how consistently Ukraine fulfills its commitments to the rule of law.
