Ukrainian Defense Forces inflicted 54,400 Russian military personnel killed and severely wounded in October — the highest monthly toll since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022 — President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday, November 1.

Writing on Telegram, Zelensky said Ukrainian forces also liberated 96.2 square kilometres of sovereign territory during the month, surpassing Russian territorial gains by 10.4 square kilometres. Russian daily casualties peaked at 2,250 on October 21.

The Unmanned Systems Forces (USF), commanded by Robert "Madyar" Brovdi, accounted for 16,796 of the Russian casualties — nearly 31 percent of the monthly total — across 255,605 combat missions striking 64,807 adversary targets. Roughly 69.5 percent of drone-inflicted casualties occurred along the Dobropillia-Pokrovsk, Oleksandrivka, and Huliaipole operational axes.

Zelensky stated that Russia need only choose an immediate ceasefire and diplomacy to halt its losses. "Russia is losing. We are holding positions, liberating territory, and ensuring that every day of the war costs the aggressor as dearly as possible," he said.

Over the final days of October, Ukrainian precision strikes destroyed an S-400 Triumf command post and a Pantsir-S2 complex valued at $70 million alongside the Kamensky solid rocket fuel plant in Rostov region, while long-range drones struck oil processing refineries in Kstovo, Ufa, and Novokuybyshevsk.

A statistical study by The Economist calculated that total Russian casualties since February 2022 range between 1.4 million and 2.1 million killed and wounded, with battlefield fatalities estimated at between 374,000 and 770,000.
