Kyrgyzstan's coal exports brought in $59.6 million in net revenue over eight months
A surge in lignite shipments to Tajikistan and China, combined with a threefold drop in imports from Kazakhstan, delivered a record positive trade balance.

Over eight months of 2026, Kyrgyzstan earned more than $59.6 million in net revenue from coal and solid fuel trade, according to the National Statistical Committee of the republic.
Total coal and solid fuel exports reached $69 million 146 thousand, with a physical volume of 1 million 357.8 thousand tonnes — a 14.6 percent increase in value compared to the same period last year.
Hard coal sales totaled 785 thousand 250.9 tonnes for $36 million 983.7 thousand (up 1.8 percent by value and up 0.1 percent by volume). Uzbekistan became the main buyer at 751.6 thousand tonnes, followed by China at 31.5 thousand tonnes and Lithuania at 1 thousand 725 tonnes.
Lignite was sold for $32.16 million (572.5 thousand tonnes). Shipments went primarily to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, and China; Uzbekistan's share in the export basket reached 79.58 percent.
Coal, coke, and peat imports into Kyrgyzstan for the same period totaled $9.5 million with a volume of 187.9 thousand tonnes. Purchases fell 52.76 percent in value compared to the previous year — chiefly due to a nearly threefold decline in imports of Kazakhstani hard coal.
