Ocalan Included in Disarmament Subcommittee; Delegation to Visit Imrali
The committee chaired by Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz will monitor the PKK weapons-laying-down process on-site at Imrali.
The Monitoring and Evaluation Committee, established under the chairmanship of Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz, determined the subcommittee structure following two separate meetings. PKK leader Abdullah Ocalan was included in the Disarmament and Strategic Coordination Subcommittee, one of four subcommittees; the subcommittee meeting will be held on Imrali Island.
The delegation will include representatives from the Interior Ministry, National Intelligence Organization (MIT), General Directorate of Security, and Ministry of National Defense. The committee will monitor the PKK's weapons-laying-down process and dissolution of organizational structures; it will directly oversee coordination.
This will be the second official visit to be conducted at Imrali. The first visit took place on December 24, 2024, when Hüseyin Yayman from the AKP, Fethi Yıldız from the MHP, and Gülistan Kılıç Koçyiğit from the DEM Party visited on behalf of the Parliamentary Commission for a Terror-Free Turkey.
The process has extended beyond Ankara: DEM Party Co-Chair Tuncer Bakırhan met with Kurdistan Region President Nechirvan Barzani and Kurdistan Democratic Party General Secretary Bafel Talabani within the framework of the MERI Forum 2026. The meetings were also attended by Ilham Ahmed from Rojava and Syrian Presidential Advisor Mazlum Abdi.
The materialization of the committee's substructure demonstrates that Ankara has now placed the PKK disarmament timeline within an institutional framework. During the negotiation process that began in January 2025, Ocalan had not previously been directly included in a committee mechanism.
