Drain cleaner explodes in chain store in Şanlıurfa: 6 injured

A drain cleaner chemical spilled into a chain store's drainage system in Şanlıurfa exploded with bomb-like force; 6 people were injured. The incident was reported by multiple national news sources, including Milliyet, TRT Haber, Cumhuriyet and Sabah.

The chemical, used to unclog the drain, is believed to have reacted in the enclosed and wet environment, creating a sudden explosion. AFAD teams and 112 emergency health units were rapidly dispatched to the scene. Substances commonly used in drain cleaners, such as sodium hypochlorite and caustic soda, can produce chlorine gas in enclosed spaces, a situation that can lead to serious chemical hazards.
