Tashkent to Allocate Up to $356 Million for 14 New Metro Train Sets
City council approved the procurement concept for 70 cars — supplier and final price remain to be determined.

Tashkent's City Council of People's Deputies approved on October 8 the concept for a project to procure 14 five-car train sets for the capital's metro. The total delivery will consist of 70 cars; the preliminary project cost is estimated in the range of $168.6 million to $356.2 million depending on the chosen manufacturer and financing conditions.
The project was prepared by Tashkent Metro. The supplier and final price have not been determined.
Under the concept's conditions, each train set must include five cars: the length of existing platforms is approximately 100 meters, so transitioning to six-car trains would require costly infrastructure reconstruction.
The need to modernize the fleet is explained by the wear on existing trains, some of which have been in operation for several decades. Without new trains, the number of train sets operating on the lines could decrease, intervals between trains could increase, and service quality could deteriorate amid growing passenger traffic.
The new train sets are intended to replace outdated cars and increase the metro's carrying capacity by reducing intervals between trains.
