Turkey Nominates Feridon Sinirlioglu for UN Secretary-General Position
President Erdogan approves submission of candidacy file to General Assembly presidency; candidate currently serves as Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe

Turkey has submitted the candidacy file of diplomat Feridon Sinirlioglu for the position of UN Secretary-General, and Ambassador Ahmet Yildiz, Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, confirmed to Anadolu Agency that the document has been formally delivered to the General Assembly presidency.
Ambassador Yildiz clarified that President Recep Tayyip Erdogan approved Sinirlioglu's nomination based on his qualifications, capabilities, and international experience. He noted that Turkey respects the convention that the winning candidate should come from the Latin America and Caribbean region, and that it waited until today for that reason before taking this step in the absence of consensus on a candidate so far.
Yildiz added that the candidacy file includes Sinirlioglu's curriculum vitae and a vision document.
Feridon Sinirlioglu currently serves as Secretary-General of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE). He previously served as Turkish Foreign Minister between August and November 2015, as well as Turkey's Permanent Representative to the United Nations between 2016 and 2023, according to Anadolu Agency.
