AKP MP Tayyar: Şimşek at the table for minimum wage and pension increases

AKP Member of Parliament Şamil Tayyar announced that he discussed minimum wage and pension increases with Treasury and Finance Minister Mehmet Şimşek. Tayyar stated that Şimşek confirmed increases would be made in both categories; however, he did not provide figures or dates.

The current minimum wage has been set at 22,104 TL since January 1, 2025. While a minimum wage earner's daily round-trip transportation costs from Şişli to Kadıköy consume approximately four percent of their monthly income, inflation continuing to outpace wage increases maintains pressure on purchasing power. An interim raise of 30 percent was implemented in July of last year, but annual inflation at that time exceeded 70 percent.

Tayyar's statement does not carry the character of an official government announcement; written confirmation has not been received from the Treasury and Finance Ministry. Sözcü is monitoring developments.
