14-year-old student beaten in class in Biga; defendant to be tried on October 16

On September 25, 2025, at İÇDAŞ Vocational and Technical Anatolian High School in the Biga district of Çanakkale, 14-year-old student Murat Duha Yıldız was beaten by classmate Y.C. with force that caused severe brain damage. The attack occurred at the end of a break following an escalating argument after Yıldız accidentally stepped on Y.C.'s foot and apologized.

After his hospital treatment, Yıldız is continuing his recovery at his home in Zonguldak under the supervision of a physical therapy specialist. His father, Hasan Yıldız, stated that the incident occurred during the school's second week and that his son was found unconscious at the scene.

The attacker, Y.C., was arrested on charges of attempted murder following the incident. The verdict hearing will take place on October 16 in Çanakkale. The school principal and two assistant principals were suspended following the event.

Before the incident, Biga İÇDAŞ High School had been the subject of parent complaints regarding disciplinary problems; however, the school administration had taken no measures at that time.
