Forest fire breaks out in Bilecik's Bayırköy; fire in Aydın's Gencelli largely brought under control

A forest fire of yet-undetermined cause broke out at the Taşçı locality in Bilecik's Bayırköy village. According to Anadolu Agency, following a report, teams under the Bilecik Forest Management Directorate were dispatched to the region; efforts to bring the fire under control are underway through air and ground intervention.

Meanwhile, the forest fire that began yesterday at the Gencelli locality in Aydın's Kuyucak district has been largely brought under control. Extinguishing efforts that continued throughout the night due to difficult terrain conditions involved 11 helicopters and 6 aircraft from the Forest Management Directorate, along with teams from the Aydın Metropolitan Municipality Fire Department.

Forest fire risk in Turkey reaches its highest level each year during the July-August period; according to AFAD data, in 2021 simultaneous fires were recorded at more than 100 locations, primarily in Muğla and Antalya. Damage estimates and intervention results for the Bilecik fire have not yet been announced.
