Istanbul Water Authority Reports Dam Capacity at 53%, Kazandere and Pabuçdere at Critical Levels

Data from Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ) as of August 6, 2026, indicates a notable decline in the city's water resources mid-summer: overall average capacity has dropped to 53.04%.

Terkos Dam, which is critical for the European side, stands at 44.59%, while Büyükçekmece Dam is at 47.76%, both falling below the 50% threshold. The dams at their lowest levels are Pabuçdere (21.80%), Kazandere (26.78%), and Istrancalar (32.84%).

Elmalı Dam, which supplies the Asian side, is at 85% representing the most positive figure in the data; Ömerli Dam is operating at 75.73%. During the same period last year, Istanbul's dams were operating at an average capacity of 67%; this year's figures represent a 14-point decline. Cumhuriyet Newspaper reported the data based on İSKİ figures.
