42 arrested in Istanbul-based egg trafficking operation
In simultaneous operations across 14 provinces, 42 people were detained in connection with an international criminal organization that sold reproductive cells from female donors abroad.
Simultaneous operations were conducted across 14 provinces as part of an Istanbul-based investigation, according to reports, dismantling an international criminal organization engaged in the sale of reproductive cells for money abroad.
According to findings, the organization obtained eggs from female donors for 60-80 euros — approximately 3,500-4,500 Turkish lira — and sold them abroad for 100 euros. The organization was determined to have operated across a network spanning Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Georgia, and Albania.
Investigators found that a catalog containing photographs and personal details of donor women had been compiled, and buyers were matched through this catalog. It is alleged that three doctors were involved in the operation.
The network, which is claimed to have a history extending from the textile sector to gang leadership, is also alleged to have injected drugs into women to facilitate its activities.
The statements of the 42 detained individuals continue to be taken. It remains unclear whether the Office of the Chief Public Prosecutor, which is conducting the investigation, has completed the preparation of an indictment.
