Tornado strikes construction site in Kepez: 4 workers killed

A tornado that broke out at 23.00 at a construction site in Fevzi Çakmak Neighborhood in Kepez district completely destroyed two containers where workers were staying and caused a tower crane to overturn.

Following the report, health, fire, police, and rescue teams were dispatched to the area. After teams removed workers from the containers, according to initial findings, 4 workers died and 1 worker was injured.

Antalya Governor Hulusi Şahin, who was at the scene conducting inspections, emphasized that the tornado affected an extremely limited area: "No storm or tornado was reported anywhere else in the city. Only here did such a cell appear. There is nothing in the surrounding buildings. We are facing a tornado that destroyed only 2 containers in this area," he said. Governor Şahin noted that the crane did not touch the containers and that the tornado affected both simultaneously.

In a written statement, Antalya Governor's Office reported that investigations continue into whether there are any other injured or dead, and that work is ongoing to identify the workers who lost their lives.
