METU and Bogazici Budgets Fall Behind Parliament's Personnel Expenditure
The 2027 budget allocates 7.8 billion TL to Bogazici and 11.2 billion TL to METU, while the Grand National Assembly's personnel expenditures alone reach 19.4 billion TL.

The 2027 budget approved by the Grand National Assembly's Plan and Budget Committee allocates a total of 33 billion 787 million 913 thousand liras to the Assembly, of which 19 billion 398 million 588 thousand TL is set aside for personnel expenditures alone. This figure surpasses the total budgets of many long-established universities.
Bogazici University's 2027 appropriation was set at 7 billion 830 million 897 thousand liras. It is noted that the Assembly's expenditures through June of this year alone exceeded 10 billion liras. The 11 billion 222 million 305 thousand liras allocated for METU falls short of the amount the Presidency has set aside solely for goods and services procurement, which exceeds 15 billion liras.
The comparison with city hospitals is equally striking: Ankara University's total 2027 allocation of 25 billion liras — one of the highest among universities — falls well short of the single-year service fee paid to city hospitals, which exceeded 30 billion liras for last summer alone.
During budget deliberations, the opposition submitted motions to address irregularities in supplementary payments, correct wage inequalities, and resolve disparities in the status of personnel performing the same work; all motions were rejected.
