Heavy downpours and hail, pre-warned by the General Directorate of Meteorology, swept across many of Turkey's provinces during the public holiday. According to reports from Sözcü, Hürriyet, and Sabah, homes and businesses were submerged in various provinces — particularly Edirne and Tekirdağ — while life ground to a halt in some areas.
Edirne emerged as the province most severely hit. Habertürk and DHA reported that streets turned into lakes, vehicles were swept away by or left stranded in floodwaters, and businesses were inundated. Tekirdağ was also struck by heavy downpours and hail.
Local administrations placed their disaster coordination units on high alert, but official authorities have yet to release definitive figures on the number of damaged structures or any casualties. Roads carrying heavy holiday traffic were also reported to have been badly affected by the rainfall.
