Spain bought 2,088 gigawatt-hours of Russian liquefied natural gas in July 2026, equal to 8.1% of the country's total LNG intake for the month, TASS reported Monday citing data published by Spanish gas grid operator Enagas.
The volume is slightly below the 2,150 GWh Spain took from Russia in July 2025. For the month, Russia ranked as Spain's fourth-largest gas supplier, behind Algeria at 41.7%, Nigeria at 15.4%, and the United States at 11.6%.
Over the first seven months of 2026, Spain purchased 39,443 GWh of Russian LNG — 18.3% of total supply — keeping Russia in third place on a year-to-date basis.
Enagas had previously reported full-year 2025 Russian LNG purchases of 42,629 GWh, sharply below the 72,360 GWh recorded in 2024, indicating a sustained downward trend even as Spain has not eliminated Russian volumes entirely.

View Now →Spain's Russian LNG imports fell 2.9% year-over-year in July 2026, with Russia ranking fourth for the month but maintaining third place year-to-date at 18.3% of Spain's total supply. The decline continues a sharp downward trend from 2024–2025 levels, though Spain has not cut off Russian gas entirely.
Energy traders and EU market analysts track Spanish LNG sourcing as a barometer of European diversification away from Russian gas post-invasion. The sustained decline in volumes signals Europe's structural shift toward alternative suppliers while revealing Spain's pragmatic balance between sanctions and energy security. Price pressures in European gas markets can shift if major importers accelerate or reverse Russian sourcing patterns.
