Japarov Makes Unscheduled Visit to Madina Market, Orders Opening by Early November
Kyrgyzstan's president personally heard from entrepreneurs, approximately 90% of whom have already relocated to new premises.
President Sadyr Japarov made an unscheduled visit on October 20 to the new and old Madina markets in Bishkek and met with traders who had previously expressed concerns about trading conditions and potential loss of commercial spaces on social media.
According to the president's press office, the entrepreneur who owned the land plot under the new market was unable to complete the project and voluntarily transferred it to the state. Invested funds will be returned to him in stages once the market begins generating revenue. The Presidential Administration is completing preparations of the facility for opening.
President's Chief of Staff Kanybek Tumanbaev reported that the new market meets fire and sanitary safety requirements. According to market administration data, approximately 90 percent of traders have already relocated to new premises. Entrepreneurs thanked the president for his attention and noted that they had previously received false information about the new market's ownership by his close relatives.
Japarov also visited the old Madina market, where a fire occurred in late August. Compensation to those affected will be paid by the owner of the land plot under the old market. Applications from entrepreneurs who purchased commercial spaces from previous owners will be reviewed individually with the involvement of law enforcement.
The president instructed Kanybek Tumanbaev to complete all preparatory work, with special attention to safe and comfortable conditions for entrepreneurs. By early November, the new Madina market should be fully operational in standard mode.
