Brigadier General Turki Al-Maliki, spokesman for the Arab Coalition Supporting Legitimacy in Yemen, announced that Saudi air defense systems detected a ballistic missile launched by Houthi forces toward the city of Taif in western Saudi Arabia, and succeeded in intercepting and downing it before it reached the targeted populated areas. Al-Maliki added that this attempt is part of a series of systematic attacks carried out by the Houthis against Saudi territory using ballistic missiles and unmanned aircraft. The announcement was made via the social media platform X.

Yemen has been experiencing a devastating civil war since Iran-backed Houthis took control of the capital Sanaa and several provinces in September 2014. In March 2015, the Arab Coalition led by Saudi Arabia intervened in support of the internationally recognized Yemeni government, yet the Houthis have not ceased targeting Saudi territory, keeping tensions inflamed across the border between the two countries.
