Egyptian Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouly issued directives to governors to intensify market oversight and require merchants to display prices clearly, as part of a new initiative to reduce prices of essential commodities until March 2027.

The directives came during a meeting of the Council of Governors in the New Administrative Capital, where Madbouly ordered the establishment of permanent markets in each governorate, as well as a seasonal market programme in coordination with the General Union of Chambers of Commerce.

The Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade launched the initiative on September 10, covering 12 essential commodities at reduced prices through 284 retail outlets. By the end of September the scheme will expand to 30 commodities, running until March 2027 to cover the Ramadan period.

On environmental policy, Madbouly imposed a strict ban on tree cutting except with written permission from Minister of Local Development and Environment Manal Awad, and required any cleared areas to be converted into green spaces irrigated with triple-treated wastewater.
