Spain says 5,000 migrants remain in Ceuta after July mass crossing
Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska vows no irregular entrant will reach mainland Spain, as 880 police officers and 714 Civil Guard personnel hold the enclave.

About 5,000 irregular migrants remain in the Spanish autonomous city of Ceuta, Interior Minister Fernando Grande-Marlaska told reporters, weeks after tens of thousands crossed in a mass entry at the end of July.
Grande-Marlaska said approximately 880 police officers and 714 Civil Guard personnel are currently deployed in Ceuta. He pledged to strengthen the security presence further and assured people considering illegal entry that none would remain in the city or reach mainland Spain.
The minister also said there was no terrorism risk linked to the events of 30 July. The overwhelming majority of those who crossed — by swimming or walking around a breakwater separating the city from Morocco — are believed to have since returned to Morocco.
Ceuta is a Spanish autonomous city on the North African coast, bordering Morocco.
