Cyprus natural gas to reach European buyers via Egypt by first half of 2028
The route through Egyptian infrastructure offers the EU a non-Russian eastern Mediterranean gas source as the bloc pursues energy diversification.

Cyprus will pipe natural gas to European markets via Egypt by the first half of 2028, according to reporting by Asharq Al-Awsat.
The corridor would route Cypriot gas through Egyptian infrastructure before onward shipment to Europe, giving the EU access to eastern Mediterranean reserves without relying on existing Russian supply chains.
Cyprus holds significant offshore gas deposits in its exclusive economic zone. Egypt already operates liquefied natural gas export terminals that have previously handled gas from neighbouring fields, making it a practical transit hub for Cypriot volumes.
The target date of the first half of 2028 sets a concrete delivery horizon for a route that European energy planners have discussed for several years as part of broader efforts to diversify the bloc's gas supply base away from Russian pipeline gas.
