Saki Elhüseyni Declares His Son Yakup as Caliph in Menzil Community

Leadership struggles within the Menzil community, regarded as one of Turkey's largest organized religious orders, have entered a new phase. According to Cumhuriyet newspaper, elder brother Saki Elhüseyni has formally declared his eldest son Yakup Elhüseyni as his caliph.

Saki Elhüseyni had previously solidified a dominant position in the leadership competition with his siblings by declaring himself the community's sheikh. His appointment of his son as caliph is being interpreted as an attempt to entrench his authority along family lines within the community's internal hierarchy.

The Menzil community has long been in the public eye due to its close ties to Turkish politics, its extensive foundation and educational network, and tens of thousands of members.
