Russia launched a combined drone and ballistic missile attack on Kyiv overnight, killing at least one person and injuring 31 others, according to NPR.
The overnight strike marked the second major assault on the Ukrainian capital within a single day. Hours earlier, a separate daytime attack on Kyiv had left at least six people dead, making it one of the more intense periods of bombardment the city has endured in recent months.
Ukrainian air defences were active during both attacks, though the strikes still caused casualties and damage across the city. Emergency services responded to multiple sites in the capital following the overnight assault.
The renewed and sustained targeting of Kyiv underscores Russia's continued strategy of striking civilian-populated urban areas deep inside Ukraine. The back-to-back attacks drew fresh international attention to the ongoing conflict, now well into its third year since Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
