CERN's Council has decided to end cooperation with Russia and Belarus in 2024, according to the organization's official website. The European Organization for Nuclear Research is discontinuing joint scientific projects with both countries.

This decision was taken against the backdrop of geopolitical tensions in Europe. CERN — the world's largest center for physics research, located on the border between Switzerland and France — brings together more than 20 member states.

Russia and Belarus previously participated in various research programs of the organization. The suspension of cooperation affects projects in the field of elementary particle physics and other areas of fundamental science.
