CHP's Candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya Elected Deputy Mayor of Üsküdar in Fourth Round

At the Üsküdar Municipality council meeting convened to elect a deputy mayor to replace CHP Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, who was detained and suspended from office, CHP's candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya was elected in the fourth round with 22 votes.

No result emerged in the first three rounds with all 44 council members present. It was determined that a portion of CHP's 27 members voted for AKP's candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin; Gültekin remained at 18 votes in the fourth round.

During the voting, brief tension erupted in the chamber when AKP members reacted to journalists who were recording footage.

YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik claimed the meeting was rescheduled to 08.00 in the morning and that some members were threatened along with their families in the third round. It is recalled that the Üsküdar Municipality Council has previously experienced multiple rounds in deputy mayor elections during this term.
