CHP's Candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya Elected Deputy Mayor of Üsküdar in Fourth Round

At a municipal council meeting convened to elect a deputy mayor to replace CHP Mayor Sinem Dedetaş, who was arrested and removed from office, CHP's candidate Sibel Tan Çetinkaya was elected in the fourth round with 22 votes.

The first three rounds produced no result among the 44 council members present. It was determined that some of the CHP's 27 members voted for AKP's candidate Dündar Ziya Gültekin; Gültekin remained at 18 votes in the fourth round.

During the voting, brief tension erupted in the chamber when AKP members reacted to journalists taking photographs.

YENİ Party Istanbul Provincial Chairman Özgür Çelik claimed that the meeting was moved to 08:00 in the morning and that some members were threatened along with their families during the third round. It is recalled that the Üsküdar Municipal Council has experienced multiple rounds in deputy mayor elections during this term before.
