Prominent international news outlets, including NBC News, have reported that the United Arab Emirates has decided to accelerate work on a new oil pipeline project aimed at expanding its capacity to export crude oil through alternative routes, away from the Strait of Hormuz, which is considered one of the world's most sensitive waterways.

This decision comes within the context of the UAE's broader strategy to strengthen its energy security and diversify its logistics routes, particularly given recurring geopolitical tensions in the Gulf region that could expose commercial maritime traffic in the strait to disruption.

The Strait of Hormuz is the maritime passage through which roughly one-fifth of global oil supplies transit, making any disruption there subject to wide-ranging consequences for international energy markets. Through this project, the UAE seeks to ensure the continuity of its oil exports regardless of any contingent developments in the region.
