Governors of All 81 Provinces to Deploy 30,000 Security Personnel in Schools

The Ministry of Interior, Ministry of National Education, and Ministry of Labor and Social Security are coordinating to place 30,000 security personnel in schools before the new academic year begins. Personnel will be recruited through ISKUR under the Public Benefit Program; the governor's offices of all 81 provinces will administer the postings.

The new system grants security personnel the authority to conduct detector-based screening at school entrances; officers who identify security risks will be able to relay real-time information to police and gendarmerie units. The measure is reported to target a recurrence of incidents similar to the armed attacks that took place in Şanlıurfa and Kahramanmaraş during the previous academic year.

Until now, school security was largely left to coordination between school administrations and local police, with no centralized personnel system in place. The employment model under the Public Benefit Program framework, however, is open to scrutiny for being temporary and low-cost; unions have not yet issued official statements on the matter.
