Camels take centre stage at Ankara's sacrifice animal market

In the Pursaklar district of Ankara, the traditional sacrifice animal market has reopened this year as part of Eid al-Adha preparations. Among the animals on offer, camels — with their imposing weight of up to a tonne — have drawn the most attention. Presented alongside cattle by sellers, the camels have become the primary animals that buyers are stopping to inspect.

All animals brought to the market underwent veterinary health inspections before being put up for sale; only those cleared as healthy were made available to buyers. With the market's opening, residents began visiting the site in search of quality, healthy sacrifice animals. The intense interest drawn by the camels at the Pursaklar sacrifice market — where large and small livestock have traditionally taken centre stage — has become a talking point among visitors. As in previous years, the pace of sacrifice animal purchases in the run-up to the holiday has visibly picked up.
