Minister Göktaş files complaint against two MPs through lawyer at Ankara Chief Prosecutor's Office
Allegation of 830 million liras in funds by New Party MPs Özlale and Enginyurt rejected on grounds of name similarity.
The lawyer for Family and Social Services Minister Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş filed separate criminal complaints with the Ankara Chief Prosecutor's Office against New Party Izmir MP Ümit Özlale and Istanbul MP Cemal Enginyurt.
In the complaint petitions, it was reported that Özlale had alleged that Minister Göktaş's father Hasan Özdemir conducted transactions totaling 830 million liras in PHE and PRY investment funds, and claimed to possess Central Registry Agency documents relating to this.
The lawyer argued that the transactions in question belonged to a different Hasan Özdemir whose name merely matched that of the minister's father, and that the situation stemmed from name similarity. The petition stated: "The client and his family have no connection whatsoever to the said fund transactions."
AK Party Deputy Chairman Faruk Acar characterized the same allegations as "deliberate disinformation" and said legal action would be pursued; Agriculture and Forestry Minister İbrahim Yumaklı expressed support for Göktaş in a social media post.
It remains unknown whether the Chief Prosecutor's Office has accepted the petition for processing and what response the two MPs have provided on the matter.
