COP31 spending reaches 14.2 billion lira; TOKI alone to spend 8 billion TL

Public spending for the 31st Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP31) to be held in Antalya in November 2025 has reached 14.2 billion lira. According to figures, the Housing Development Administration (TOKI) tendered 8 billion 85 million lira for the construction of the event venue and infrastructure and environmental landscaping works; the contract was awarded to Özyazıcı Construction. The Environment Ministry's Department of Climate Change received 5 billion 650 million lira, while the Antalya Metropolitan Municipality signed a contract for 435 million 600 thousand lira for road construction.

Last year, the total cost of the NATO Summit held in Ankara was announced as 13 billion lira; COP31 spending has already exceeded that figure, and the conference is still four months away. The billions in public spending on a climate summit expected to champion sustainability principles has raised questions in opposition circles about the legitimacy of the conference.
