Economist Aydoğmuş: 2027 minimum wage will be around 37,000 TL

Sözcü columnist and economist Mahmut Aydoğmuş predicted that the 2027 minimum wage will be set at approximately 37,000 TL net.

The minimum wage implemented this year at 28,075 TL remained at a single adjustment throughout the year; as of September, nine-month inflation reached 24.32 percent. For a minimum wage worker in Istanbul, this picture is concrete: daily transportation costs from Beşiktaş to Kadıköy have increased in real terms since the beginning of the year, while wages have remained frozen.

Aydoğmuş noted that if the 28.4 percent year-end inflation forecast in the Medium-Term Program is directly reflected in wages, the figure would settle at approximately 36,490 TL. In his own calculation, looking at current economic indicators and inflation expectations, he pointed to the 37,000 TL range.

Minimum wage in Turkey was last adjusted twice a year in 2023; since then, a single-period application has been adopted. It should be noted that the Minimum Wage Determination Commission meets each December and implements its decision at the beginning of the year.

Aydoğmuş also emphasized that the increase rate must be kept above inflation in order to preserve purchasing power.
