Erdoğan: Principal Repayments Up to 1 Million Lira Begin in October
The President announced a concrete timeline for the fund crisis following the 73rd Cabinet Meeting; judicial investigations continue.

Following the 73rd Cabinet Meeting, which lasted approximately 3 hours and 20 minutes, Erdoğan unveiled a concrete timeline for the fund crisis: principal repayments of up to 1 million lira will begin in October.
Erdoğan emphasized that those who obtained illicit gains will pay the price, stating "Whoever steps outside the legitimate boundaries of the law, we will hold accountable." He also announced that additional regulations would strengthen capital markets against such vulnerabilities.
The fund crisis affects hundreds of thousands of small investors; the 1 million lira threshold may not represent a complete match for a middle-income Istanbul resident who invested their entire savings in these instruments. The Capital Markets Board's application of similar thresholds during previous crisis periods had remained controversial.
Erdoğan also announced that the 2026-2027 contingent for the İŞKUR Youth Program has been increased to 150,000, that they will continue their commitment to accelerating urban transformation efforts in Istanbul, and that they condemn the October 10 attack on Riyadh Airport.
