Erman Toroğlu resigns from Sözcü TV during live broadcast

Sports commentator Erman Toroğlu announced his resignation from Sözcü TV during a live broadcast of the program "Maç Varsa Erman Hoca Var," hosted by Yasin Yıldırım. According to Ekonomim Dünya, Toroğlu made his announcement during the program broadcast on YouTube.

Resigning at a time when reports of approximately 50 employees losing their jobs at Sözcü newspaper were in the headlines, Toroğlu criticized personnel changes at the media group, broadcast policy, and working conditions. Toroğlu noted that people had left and transfers had been made, saying "with my departure, they may be able to keep 10-15 people" and that young colleagues could continue working.

Emphasizing that his decision was not sudden, Toroğlu said, "I've been watching for a month; this afternoon I made my final decision." Commenting on broadcast policy, the commentator noted that when a rival newspaper ran a headline, an important interior minister did not step down, saying "I looked at it and thought it won't work, let's not force anyone."

Recalling his principle throughout his career, Toroğlu justified his decision with the words, "Where you play, leave clean. I was a referee, I went into every match as if it were my last." Describing his process of joining Sözcü Media Group, Toroğlu recalled that he first began writing for the newspaper, and then Yılmaz Özdil and Güney Öztürk offered him a television program.

It had been reported that the Germany desk at Sözcü Media Group had also ended its operations and that personnel reductions could continue. Toroğlu closed the program by saying "endless love to Sözcü television and Sözcü newspaper."
